Wasp Control in Cottingham | Hull | Quick Services
30 August 2023Hello Rodents: Seasonal Pest Changes
13 September 2023The Challenge
We recently faced an interesting challenge in Market Weighton: treating a wasp nest that was tucked away in a hard-to-reach spot. Located in a gutter gully under roof tiles, above a conservatory, the nest was not just a nuisance but also a potential hazard. Traditional means of access, such as cherry pickers and ladders, were ruled out due to the difficult placement and the surrounding architecture of the detached house.
Why Cherry Pickers and Ladders Weren’t Feasible for this Wasp Nest
You might wonder, why not just use a cherry picker or a ladder? Here are the reasons:
- Cherry Picker: These large vehicles are usually a go-to for elevated tasks, but given the conservatory below and the limited space around the property, maneuvering such a vehicle would have been impractical and potentially risky.
- Ladders: Setting up a ladder could have been risky given the high elevation and the difficult angles with the conservatory in the way. It would have also required someone to climb up close to the wasp nest, increasing the risk of stings.
The Perfect Solution for Inaccessible Wasp Nest: Extendable Lance
We decided to go with a tool designed for such complications—an extendable lance with a reach of over 7 meters. This extension tool allowed us to apply the treatment from a safer distance, yet it was precise enough to treat the entry points and surrounding area effectively.
How It Works
The lance is equipped to deliver the insecticide in a targeted manner, ensuring that we get as close to the nests entry points as possible without physically being near it. The 7+ meter reach meant we could maintain a safe distance, apply the powder effectively and safely
The Results
After treating the nest, we’ve planned a follow-up visit after 48 hours to check for progress and lack of wasp activity. This will confirm the effectiveness of the treatment and allow us to take any further actions if necessary.
In Conclusion
Sometimes, the traditional ways to tackle a problem might not be the most efficient or the safest. Our experience in Market Weighton serves as an excellent example of how innovation and the right tools can make a significant difference. It’s not just about getting rid of the problem; it’s about doing it in the safest and most efficient way possible.
